Objetivo

Dar e receber mentoria técnica em inglês com maturidade profissional: feedback acionável, perguntas guiadas, calibração de expectativas, e postura de quem aprende e de quem ensina sem virar coaching vazio.

Explicação

Mentoring em engenharia é diferente de managing: o mentor não manda, e o mentee continua dono da decisão. Em B2, isso aparece em quatro padrões verbais. Abertura acolhedora: abrir a 1:1 com perguntas abertas como *how is the project landing for you so far?* ou *what's the hardest part right now?* evita a armadilha de começar pela solução. Diagnóstico compartilhado: o mentor reflete de volta o que ouviu — *what I'm hearing is that the testing step is taking longer than you expected; does that match?* — antes de sugerir qualquer coisa. Direção por princípios, não por ordens: em vez de *do it this way*, prefira *the principle here is to keep the blast radius small; one way to do that is...* O mentee aplica o princípio ao contexto dele. Fechamento com ownership: termine com *what's one thing you'll try before our next 1:1?* — assim a ação é do mentee, não sua.

Erros comuns de mentor júnior: falar mais que o mentee, dar respostas prontas demais, transformar mentoria em live coding, e pular direto para a solução técnica sem entender o problema humano. O sinal de que a mentoria está funcionando: o mentee começa a chegar com perguntas melhores, não só com blockers.

Para receber mentoria de forma produtiva, três padrões: traga contexto curto (não peça mentoria com 'estou travado'), diga o que você já tentou (mostra que pensou), e feche com um plano concreto ('vou voltar terça com X pronto'). Mentor bom valoriza mentee que respeita o tempo dele.

Exemplos

Erros comuns

• Pular do problema direto para a solução: o mentee perde a chance de pensar, e o mentor vira microgerente.
• Falar mais que o mentee na sessão: sintoma de que a mentoria virou palestra.
• Dar ordens disfarçadas de sugestão: 'talvez você devesse fazer X' sem deixar espaço para o mentee adaptar.
• Pedir mentoria sem contexto: 'estou travado' é um problema do mentor, não uma pergunta.
• Não fechar com ação concreta: sessão sem próximo passo raramente gera mudança.
• Tratar mentoria como live coding: debugging em tempo real consome a sessão e ensina pouco.
• Confundir mentor com manager: mentor não define prazo, não cobra entrega, não dá feedback de performance formal.
• Aceitar mentoria sem dizer o que já tentou: o mentor perde tempo sugerindo o básico.

Prática guiada

Reescreva cada pedido abaixo no padrão B2 de mentoria. O objetivo é acolher, diagnosticar, sugerir princípio, fechar com ownership.

• Pedido cru: 'Estou travado nesse bug.'

→ Versão B2: *I've been debugging a race condition in the cache layer. I have a small reproducer, but I can't tell if it's a Redis issue or my code. Could we spend 20 minutes on it tomorrow?* Explicação: traz contexto, tentativa, e pergunta focada.

• Conselho genérico: 'Você deveria usar feature flags.'

→ Versão B2: *The principle I'd think about here is rollout risk. Feature flags are one tool for that, but you could also do a canary. Which fits the team better?* Explicação: princípio + opções, não ordem.

• Sessão sem fechamento: 'Foi uma boa conversa, até a próxima.'

→ Versão B2: *What's one thing you'll try before our next 1:1? Maybe pick something small you can actually finish.* Explicação: fechamento com ownership e escopo realista.

A principle, not an order

After listening, Tom shared a principle. He said, the principle here is to keep the blast radius small. He offered two options: a feature flag or a small canary. He asked Mia which path fit her team better. Mia chose the feature flag because her team was already used to it. Tom validated the choice and asked what she would try first. Mia said she would draft the rollback runbook before the next deploy.
