Objetivo

Descrever um erro no trabalho, identificar a causa e propor uma solução usando frases simples com because, the cause is e to fix it, we need to.

Explicação

Em uma investigação de incidente, três blocos de informação são úteis:

1. O problema (sintoma) — o que aconteceu, o que o usuário vê.
2. A causa — por que aquilo aconteceu.
3. A solução — o que a equipe vai fazer para corrigir.

Use because para ligar sintoma e causa: `The app crashes because the database is down.`, `The dashboard is slow because the query is too big.` `Because` é seguido por uma frase completa (sujeito + verbo).

Para destacar a causa em separado, use The cause is + nome/vinge ou The reason is + frase:

• `The cause is a bad configuration.`
• `The reason is that the worker didn't start.`

Para destacar o efeito, use This causes + nome ou This leads to + frase:

• `This causes a delay.`
• `This leads to a 500 error.`

Para propor a correção, use To fix it, we need to + verbo base ou The solution is to + verbo base:

• `To fix it, we need to restart the service.`
• `The solution is to update the config file.`

A estrutura completa fica:

> `The issue happens because the cache is empty. The cause is a new deploy. > To fix it, we need to clear the cache.`

Em because of + nome, você evita a segunda frase: `The issue happens because of a new deploy.` Para dizer que algo acontece com frequência no presente, use o simple present (`crashes`, `fails`, `doesn't work`).

Erros comuns

• Esquecer o verbo depois de because: `The app crashes because the database.` deve ser `because the database is down.`
• Usar `because` com nome: prefira `because of + nome` (`because of a bug`) ou complete com verbo (`because there is a bug`).
• Esquecer `to` antes do verbo depois de `The solution is` ou `To fix it`: `The solution is restart` deve ser `The solution is to restart`.
• Trocar `the cause` por `the caused` ou `the causing`; `cause` aqui é substantivo, não verbo.
• Colocar o verbo no passado quando se fala de um problema atual: `The app crashed because the cache is empty` deve ser `The app crashes because the cache is empty`.
• Dizer `to fix` sem objeto: prefira `to fix it` ou `to fix the bug` para soar natural.

The reason is that the report job doesn't have a time limit yet. This query locks the payments table and blocks the checkout flow.

A simple fix

Mark talked to his teammate and proposed a workaround. To fix it, we need to stop the report job for now. The solution is to add a time limit on the report job and add an index on the table. The team updated the config and restarted the report job. After that, the payment page became fast again and the timeout errors stopped.
