A careful Riverstone conversation

Morgan usa linguagem de trabalho B1 para relatar uma dificuldade de software, negociar uma resposta e registrar o próximo passo.

The problem

While the team was dealing with a community workshop about safe passwords, Morgan had been working on the Riverstone release for several weeks when a customer test exposed a difficult point. The team had already reviewed the expressions “in other words” and “sprint meeting”, but the new evidence suggested that the problem was not as simple as it first appeared.

Instead of guessing, Morgan asked what the team knew, what it still needed to check, and how the term “improve” might affect the next step. Drew offered a different view, so Morgan paraphrased it before explaining the risk connected to the term “stress”.

The response

The team chose a limited test rather than a complete change. Morgan said that this would not remove every uncertainty, but it would give them a clearer basis for action. The group wrote “system topic” in the update so nobody would mistake a plan for a promise.

After the meeting, Morgan gave Drew feedback: the explanation was honest, but the conclusion needed one concrete example from the Riverstone release. Drew accepted the suggestion, and the two colleagues revised the message together.

By the end, the team had not declared victory. It had identified the blocker, agreed on a next step, and left a record that another engineer could understand. That modest result made the next conversation easier. The team logged this Riverstone note in week 20.
