How the book exchange works

The neighborhood book exchange is organized by volunteers every Saturday. First, donated books are collected from homes and schools. Then, they are checked for damage and sorted by subject. A small label is placed inside each book to show when it was received.

Choosing and borrowing

Next, the books are placed on tables so that visitors can browse them easily. After choosing a book, visitors write their names in the borrowing notebook. A volunteer explains how to return the book and where to ask questions. Members are allowed to borrow two books, but they are asked to return them within a month.

The result

Finally, returned books are cleaned and placed on the tables again. The process is designed to make reading affordable and to keep useful books in the community. Everyone involved knows what to do, so the exchange usually finishes before lunch. As a result, hundreds of books are shared instead of being forgotten in cupboards.
