História: Pensar em inglês ao vivo

Nível: C2

An unexpected question

During a train journey, a fellow passenger asked Sofia why she had chosen to live in a smaller city. Sofia had not prepared an answer, so she smiled and said, Let me think about that. The pause gave her enough time to decide what she actually wanted to explain.

A clearer version

At first she mentioned the quiet streets, then she stopped and repaired her answer. What I am trying to say is that the city gives me time to notice people, she said. She qualified the idea by adding that the city was not perfect and that she sometimes missed the energy of a capital.

A real conversation

The passenger did not need a polished speech; she asked a follow-up question about the local market. Sofia lost her train of thought once, laughed gently, and put it briefly: the move had made ordinary days feel more visible. By the time the train arrived, both women had shared a thoughtful conversation without planning every sentence.
