A volunteer teacher

Rosa was teaching new volunteers how to welcome visitors at a community museum. One volunteer memorized the facts but gave visitors too much information at once. Rosa asked a Socratic question: What would a first-time visitor need to know first?

Examples and growth

She offered a family example and a school-group example, then asked the volunteer to compare them. Your explanation is accurate, Rosa said; a useful growth edge would be giving the main direction before the historical detail. The volunteer practised the shorter opening with two visitors.

A feedback loop

Afterward, Rosa asked what the visitors had found unclear. The volunteer noticed that the map needed to be shown earlier and changed the next explanation. The support had adapted to the learner: a model came first, then a question, then room for independent judgment.
