The access question

A fair counterargument

The memo acknowledged that longer hours would increase staffing costs and fatigue. However, it explained that a short pilot would let clinical governance measure safety, reach, and patient access. Its recommendation was to review the results before turning the pilot into public-health policy.

The public request

The letter ended with a call to action: residents should attend the governance hearing and ask for the pilot. The writers did not claim that evening appointments would solve every access problem. They made a defensible case and invited the board to decide after reviewing the evidence.
