The first draft

Rafael was writing to the community center about an evening language class. In the opening paragraph, he explained the context: many residents worked during the day and could not attend existing classes. His main point was that one evening class could make the program more accessible.

Evidence and position

Rafael included the attendance record as a supporting detail and noted that eighteen people had asked about a later schedule. In light of that information, he recommended a six-week trial on Wednesday evenings. He used a respectful tone and admitted that the small room would limit the number of places.

A specific request

Rafael asked whether the center could reserve the room and help him announce the trial. As a result, the coordinator knew exactly what decision was needed and by when. Rafael promised to follow up the next week if he did not receive an answer.
