A difficult workshop

Lena was preparing a workshop for new volunteers but felt that every activity became too long. Her friend Paulo did not give her a complete plan; he began with a coaching question. What does the group need to understand first, and what have you already tried? he asked.

A hypothesis

Lena realized that she had ruled out short practice activities because she feared they would feel incomplete. One possibility might be to run one short activity and ask the volunteers what they still needed. If the feedback showed confusion, she could add an explanation before the next session.

Ownership stays with the learner

Lena tried the experiment and discovered that the shorter activity led to better questions. Paulo asked what she wanted to keep and what she would change, rather than claiming credit for the result. The feedback loop helped Lena expand her options while keeping problem ownership.
