At the first meeting
Beatriz is at the public library in the morning. She says hello to Rui and says, “My name is Beatriz.” She also repeats “work” when Rui asks a friendly question. She is from Brazil, and she lives in Salvador.
At a small table, she practices “zero” and “home” with a notebook. She asks about “open” and checks “close”, while Rui gives a clear example with “student” and “teacher”.
Practicing together
Before she leaves, Rui writes a short message with “Excuse me”, “twenty”, and “station”. The sound is not clear, so Beatriz asks, “Can you repeat that, please?” Then they smile, say goodbye, and go home.
At lunch, Beatriz shows Rui the same message again. They point to “work” and “close”, read the words slowly, and check each other’s answer.
A small routine
In the afternoon, Beatriz uses “teacher” and “station” in a short conversation. It is not perfect, but the two friends understand each other and feel ready for tomorrow.
